Magura hs33s on a Kona Phd

    Hey,

    I ride a Kona Phd http://www.konabikes.co.uk/2k7bikes/phd_2k7.php

    I mainly use the bike for commuting and some weekend riding. I'm thinking of upgrading the brakes becuase the avids require alot of maintaince and are always coming loose. Basically i'd like something stronger, more reliable and if it looks as sweet as the hs-33 that's a bonus.

    My question is do you guys think it's a good idea. Would there be compatability issues? You never really see commuter/road/hybrids with hydraullic rim brakes. Is that because they are too heavy/expensive?

    The hydraulic rim brakes will eat your rims unless you keep them spotless.

    Id imagine your problem ha more to do with poor maintenance than with the actual brakes. Do you get the bike fixed in a shop?

    I wouldnt bother.

    I have, they eat rims. I had one explode on me when i went to put air in it, have replaced a few rims too on bikes using them, they really eat into them when there is dirt on the pads. Although for a commuter you should be fine.

    pretty good brakes though.

    But Id imagine in the OPs case his brakes just need to be adjusted correctley.

    hey thanks for the comments guys

    @kona i try and maintain the bike myself , so i haven't got it fixed in any shops (apart from an inital service) it's been awhile now though so i probably should drop it into a shop
