I have just picked my first payment after signing on at the start of june. I had a fair bit of cash in my bank account so didnt feel the need to pick it up. However i hear that you can recieve back payment for the times you didnt collect since signing on and was wondering how do you go about that. If its makes any difference i have already done my means test but havnt heard back from them yet.

Have you received payment for JA or was it Supplementary Welfare Allowance? If the payment was SWA you will receive the back payment of JA from the date of first signing-on once your JA claim has been fully processed by the DSFA.... it is done automatically.

Yeah actually it is Supplementary Welfare Allowance, but i hear that if visit the social welfare officer then they may simply give to you there and then.

I think what you get in swa is deducted from your backpayments.

HAs anybody here been approved for JSA after a wait and had difficulty getting back pay?

Has anyone here heard of the back-pay for JSA being denied?

I am not talking about the time period before you decided to make a claim.

Rather, I am talking about that time period between making the claim and having it approved.

I am at 15 weeks and would be rather miffed if there was a beef with my "inbetween" pay.

    Cheers.

IT Loser, have you contacted them since making your claim? 15 weeks is a little bit much. Unless you're 100% sure everything is above board, I'd head down to them tomorrow and make sure they haven't lost any of your paperwork or anything.

Personally, I've had no problems getting my 'back pay', but a friend of mine who was in a very similar situation to me (we both came off FAS courses together, but someone reported him to Welfare as having a job, despite him not having one, so he had to argue that with them whilst he was being processed, and eventually they realised he wasn't working) but when he went to collect his first week's JSA, he didn't have any back pay.

This was only this week though, he reckons if there's nothing there next week, he'll go down to them and see what he can do about it.

KKV, 15 weeks is normal depending on where you are.

I'm waiting 20 weeks, and I haven't even had my means test yet (ITL has)

That's crazy. I was sorted out and back on JSA in about six weeks.

I have been waiting since 12th November for JSA i have only recently received money from my local CWO . I have a job offer but I cannot take it because I need my back pay to get me there and for food and accommodation. I think this is fecking stupid, I know there is a back log but I have told Social welfare that i have been offered a job and need my back pay. I don't know what else to do as I have till Friday week or lose the job.

Accept the job offer, you are still entitled to the back pay from the time you were out of work, go into the SW office and ask to speak to the manager, you might have to wait a bit, but they should meet with you and you can explain your situation, hopefully they can sort it for you ASAP.

Hi Coolabula I have tried everything been to talk to everyone the problem is that I dont have the money to take the job I need money for a place to stay, food, transport and a flight. I spoke to SW this morning and it is always the same answer, we are trying our best it sometimes seems they don't care if you get work or stay on the dole.
