Anyone got any tips for removing a stuck thermostat housing. We've removed the bolts but the damn thing won't budge. Its on a '65 Wolseley 1500.

Don't try to pry it off with a screwdriver, you will scratch the sealing surfaces. Pour boiling water over it and while still hot use a wooden drift to tap it gently - i.e suitably sized piece of wood pressed firmly against the housing and then gently tap the end of the wood with a small hammer. If it does not move straight away try tapping it in alternate directions.

    charm it off..!!!;)

I don't envy you...last thing you want to do is crack it. It will probably shift eventually but you'll probably have to be patient

Thanks but thing is the thermostat is held onto the block by the means of 3 bolts. These bolts are screwed onto studs which pass through the 3 holes on the housing. This prevents us from moving it sideways at all. The only ways to take it off are to either lift it straight up or remove the studs. More than likely this hasn't been budged in the guts of 40 years so its really held on well.
