    Hi All
Was on a stag recently in Westport. It was all above board; the hotel had no issue and there was no issue getting into pubs etc

I was wondering what is view of the hospitality industry in Kilkenny city towards stag nights, would they be as welcoming given that traditionally it was not something they embraced.

Have to organise a stag in the coming weeks and would welcome any feedback

Not something they embrace? Where did you get that idea? All thats on here every weekend is stag and hen parties. While alot of the locals find them a royal pain [myself included] the pubs, hotels, clubs etc etc are very hospitable towards them.

You might be referring to when the licencing laws were changed in KK 2 years ago when they shut all bars and clubs at 1.30. However these laws have been changed again and you can now get a drink in all the late bars until almost 2 and the clubs until pretty late.

Agreed, how did the OP come to this conclusion.

I've never heard or seen any pubs not "embrace" stags etc in Kilkenny

My mate and a few of his mates all wore suits out one night just for the laugh and they couldn't get into a number of places (sober) including Langton's because bouncers thought they were a stag.

I don't know of anywhere that would refuse a stag these days as long as ye are well behaved, look semi respectable and not totally pissed going to the door.

If they do then they don't deserve your custom anyway.

A number of years ago I was waiting to check in at a Kilkenny hotel. The receptionist was on the phone dealing with an enquiry. She had formed the opinion that those on the other end were part of an upcoming stag party and she refused to take a booking. After she hung up I quizzed her and she said that they there was a concerted effort to rid the city of stags as they were giving the city a bad name and were scaring away more custom than they brought.

Also, if you were to believe anedocal evidence stags are not welcomed in Kilkenny.

I have socialised in Kilkenny on many an occasion and found it to be a great place.

I just wanted to take the temperature so see if the above holds (or has ever held)water.

    There was, it didn't work!

You have nothing to worry about at all.
