Jobseekers Allowance Benefit after travelling for a year or more...

    Hi folks,
I apologize if this question has already been answered...I had a search, but could not find an answer.

I am being made redundant soon (end of October). At this time, I intend to travel the world for at least a year. I have been in full time employment in Ireland for the last 10 years (originally from England...but don't hold that against me :)).

I will be returning to Ireland after this trip as I own a house in Ireland...

The question is, on my return (end 2010 or early 2011), will I still be entitled to collect the Job Seekers Benefit even though I haven't claimed any of my "stamps"??

    Thanks for your help.

Social welfare goes off the Tax year 2 years ago.So at the moment you quailfy for Jobseekers Benefit on the PRSI youy paid in 2007.So next year it will be your PRSI paid for 2008.

Perfect. Thanks Tomered1. I should be back in early 2011...so this tax year will apply on my return.

Historically it goes on your PRSI paid from 2 years previous - but we can't say what the conditions will be for next year - all depends on what the government decide in this year's budget. Going on this years conditions you probably would qualify. But there's no guessing what changes they will make to Social Welfare.
