Tips for learning songs and lyrics?

despite many years of dipping in and out of guitar playing, I still cannot play one tune (and sing the lyrics) from beginning to end.

how do you go about this difficult task!! (for me anyway...)

the way i do it is listen to the song until you go insane and start to dispise it while singing along and playing
also us association - say if there's a middle or a change, associate the line with the chord change
thats what works for me

Get on youtube. Plenty of lessons on there. Put in "how to play" name of tune and off you go. Practice is the only answer I'm afraid....
