    Hi,

Just looking for some help picking out a laptop. Im heading off travelling for a year and am looking to pick up a laptop/notebook to bring with me. The priorities are the obvious one:

    - Small and light (only looking for a small notebook that i wouldnt notice the weight of on my back)
    - Price (really cant afford to break the bank as im struggling enough to pay for the trip as it is!)

Really im only going to be using it to pick up wireless in the hostels, browse the web and watch a few downloaded tv shows/movies. I would much rather get a second hand one as it will do the job and be cheaper.

If you know any good sites for picking up second hand laptops and could recommend the best models with the above criteria in hand it would be much appreciated. Is €300 price range realistic for what i need? Also if you know anyone here in Dublin who could help me out.

    Thanks,
    Dermot

Wallko, 329 is the magic price starting point. That will get you a rather broad selection from Dell, Asus, Acer, Samsung..

If you're based in Dublin, PC World, in the Jervis Street Shopping Center, have a big selection of them on the shop floor, you can go in and have a good fidget, before buying them there, elsewhere, or online..

Nearly all have the same configuration internally, but quite a few differ in how the keyboard feels\behaves, under your typing fingers. I would say to you.. make sure you you can live with using the keyboard you end up with. Screen is important too, the eternal choice, matt or glossy.. and if there's a clear and crisp presentation of colours and text. Again, that can vary wildly, with some looking decidely washed out and mushy.

I highly recommend This New Lenovo S10-2 netbook nice little machine and will be around your €300 mark with postage. Bare in mind that all netbooks will be without a DVD/CD drive but who needs them anyways!

    A review (hothardware.com): http://hothardware.com/Articles/Lenovo-IdeaPad-S102-Review

A version of the S10-2 is slated to have an ION chipset at some point, no idea if it will appear over here, in Europe.

Anyone buying this, battery changes according to country of origin, make sure you're getting a six cell and not a three cell battery.
