Hi all, I've just got a quick question

Can anyone tell me if these: http://www.thomann.de/ie/akg_drum_rhythm_pack.htm are any good?

And if not could anyone tell if there's anything in a similar price range?

    I use these:
    http://www.red5audio.com/acatalog/Drum_Kit_Mics.html
MUCH cheaper, and at the time, when I did my research, people have told me that they prefer them to the AKG.
    HTH
    Shay.

id get the akg , the red fives arent great

the tom mounts are -pure crap and the kick mic is weak.

if you are doing lhome stuff, you are better off with two good overheads a and a kick mic - and maybe a snare mic at a push

live , you will need tom mics for the larger toms and a kick mic more than anything , snare and cymbals dont really need micing unless you are doing larger places.

or a good set of over heads and a kick mic .

been using them for about 7 years, so definitely don't think the tom holders are crap. I agree though that a good set of overheads and perhaps bass & snare mics might do a better job, and that you can get away without tom mics, though that will depend on the genre you are working on.

I've a set of the red5 which I'm pretty pleased with. Excellent for the price. The AKG drums set is another favourite but quite a bit more expensive.
I'm very impressed with Audix mics although I've not tried their drum range.

I've been using Audix since '95 and wouldn't bother with anything else, though they're not cheap, but I have a deal with the factory. there is a cheap range, but I have no experience of them.

Well the mic set has the D112 which is a legendary microphone for recording kick drums. Those over heads sound beautiful as well. Over all those are the two things that need to be top of the range, as mentioned above, to get you a nice drum sound. I'm really not sure about the tom/snare mics cause I've never tried them. The old akg sets came with these tiny spot mics that sounded terrible but I think they were more for live rigging more than anything.

Not a big d112 fan either .......... in this price range a beta52 would be more to my taste. Shure do a box set which doesnt have the beta 52 but has a PG52 a cheaper production version i presume ..... i have used it and it's not bad actual sounds good on the floor toms ....... the tom mic's in the set sounded ok too but i did have to make some sharp eq cuts when mixing them. the overheads are ok ..... but again needed a lot of eqing ....

All in all if you are buying mic's for a kit ...... i think you should save your money and buy each mic on it's own ...... no one brand has it all, for the money of a set you can easy pick up mixed set on ebay.

dont dis the d112 - its got to be placed properly and has a load of good positions , kinda like madonna - even if it looks dodgy .

id go with a pair of oktava mk12's , and akg d112 and an sm57 for snare and toms total approx 700 plus stands

I've been getting on well with the audix adx51. I think theyve made a better one now tho.
