Nine swimmers made the journey across Liscannor bay today in difficult enough conditions, Wind was S.W. F4-5, with a 1.5mtr swell.
It's about 2 miles from Lahinch to Liscannor. Best time was just under the hour.

Was this an organised swim? didn't see it advertised anywhere. sounds like a good challenge.

I think it was a fundraiser for the Burren Chernobyl Project. http://www.burrenchernobyl.ie/index.htm Not sure how the swimming group is made up but I think it's "invites" ;) only for safety reasons.

Just curious, is there any rips or hazards between the two that a swimmer would have to watch out for?

Yep, rips there alright. A boat or some type of craft is a must to shadow any swimmer in case things go pear shaped. The boat/craft can also assist the swimmer with direction. Even a small chop or swell can make direction finding difficult for the swimmer.
If the boat etc stays between the swimmer and the pier [Liscannor in this case] this will help the swimmer with orientation and of course address safety concerns.
