How many miles can you get out of the low petrol (amber) light?

Hey, I drive a 98 Renault Megane RT 1.6 petrol and I'm wondering roughly how many miles would you get out of the amber light indicating a low petrol level? It has a 60L petrol tank

Also to save setting up a new thread, how many miles are these cars generally "good for" before they start giving trouble? I've 112k up on it now.

    Kind regards.

How long is a piece of string?
We can't answer that question, there are so many variables. Like how fast you're driving, how much extra weight there is in the car, how fast you accelerate etc etc.

usually about 20miles (but I have a 1.8L Fiesta Van Diesel) ....so should be able to find a petrol station in 20miles :D

as the other poster said - too many variables for you.... speed, weight of stuff in car, speed travelling etc etc

Speak for yourself. You can assume no extra weight in the car. I'm sure it wouldn't deviate too much, just looking for a rough estimation

I can get 40 miles from orange light through orange flashing light to empty if I'm running petrol. About 27 on E85

Well what MPG do you normally average?
We should be able to give you an estimate based on that.

Didn't we do this thread before under 'amber light bingo' or something :D, correct term 'Hypermiling'? I think there may be 30k in reserve on my mk1 foci.

my yellow light comes on when i have 53 miles left in the tank according to the OBC. now how many miles i can get when the OBC hits 0.....thats a test!!!!

dont wana try it in my diesel though

Amber light used to come on when there were between 50 and 60 miles left in the tank for my old 1.8T A4. I went another 40 miles before filling up and it took 66 litres so there wasn't much left in it!

Haven't tried it in the new car yet! Too afraid! :p

My 07 Fiesta shows the amber light when (according to the computer) there's 50 miles to go. The red light comes on with 10 miles to go.

The computer is unreliable when the tank is low though and the 50 may become 25 with less than 10 miles travelled.

I have driven 3 miles with the computer showing zero...but I didn't enjoy it.

Every car is different and driving on the motorway is going to give very different result from driving in traffic.

Anyway, the amber light has a message for you. Heed it!

The computer "miles" are based on averages since the tank was last filled, whereas the red light is the true indication that the tank is low.

Those "x km until empty" computers are about as accurate as Martin King.

When the amber light goes on, fill the tank and look at how much you can put in at the pump. Then you'll know roughly how much is left in the tank when the light goes on (assuming it can actually take 60 litres, dunno how much dirt would be at the bottom by now), and you if you work out your typical fuel consumption for whatever driving condition (city driving or motorway driving will be significantly different) you'll be able to answer your question.

My car ('98 Fiesta) has about 5 litres left when it gets to the red line (no light :) ), and will do about 30MPG around town or 40+ on motorways so I'll get at least 30 miles.
