This is what i currently have ^^^ ...its a Dawes Tourismo 20Four (very very basic i know:(), have it about 2 years and its a grand bike for commuting. I travel 12 miles to and from work, about 3 - 4 days a week, so a total of about 72-84 miles a week.

I am really enjoying cycling but i find that i can only go so far on this bike. I am going to avail of the cycle to work scheme, in the aim of doing some long road cycles as well as commuting. I would eventually like to do the WW200 by next summer.

So, im looking for advice on what type of bike to get. I just want to spend €1000 to start and then when I get serious and better I will upgrade. Can I get a good bike for this amount of money?? one that will double for commuting and long range cycles?

    Any advice appreciated!

    Ben,
I recently bought the Trek 1.9 with full ultegra group set, and dual pedals, you are more than welcome to try it out before you make any purchase.

    Good place to start: http://wiki.boards.ie/wiki/Buying_a_bicycle

I have a Giant SCR1.5 that I paid around 900 and something for last year. Grand bike, except for the wheels which I replaced with mavic aksiums.

The Defy is the new range which replaces the SCR. I commute on it and do sportives. Hope to attempt to race on it too.
