    Hi,

can anyone settle an argument for me please. Do pro riders generally have one or two front sprockets on their bikes?

    Thanks:)

    why are you sorry?

why is your signature so big?

Most races riders use 53/39. It´s only rarely, like at Paris Roubaix that you´ll see them breaking out the 42t inner rings these days.

You say that, and we all agree, its not an arguement, your just wrong unless you can link/prove otherwise.

I'm thinking of only using the one chainring in an upcoming race. Will take the big one off.

    What's a compact?

One chainring for track racing. Everything else is two. Theres no such thing as personal preference in this instance if you are talking about road racing, there isn't a pro in the world entering an open road race without 2 chainrings at the front.

The front derailleurs and shifters are dead giveaways...

A small makeup case - fits in a jersey pocket. All the pros use them.

Hmm, the pros use this? Should I be getting one?

There are some cases in time trials where riders have used only one chainring- however this raises the probability of their dropping a chain, at least if they also take the front derailleur off. I think Millar was only running one chainring when he dropped his chain in the 2003 Tour prologue, costing him the yellow jersey. The norm even in a time trial would be two rings, even if the rider never uses the small one.

Compact, maybe evolving into a semi, with 11-25. I have ambitions to do the Marmotte - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

only if you can get one in white

50-36. Almost the same tooth ratio as 53-39 for supposedly better shifting, and more useful smaller chainring.

edit: and I might at some point want to fit Q-rings, which can prove difficult to fit in standard form on a braze-on front mech due to clearance issues. Basically, 110BCD FTW - much more chainring choice.
