    Hi,
Just wondering is anybody doing the trip from Mullingar to Galway and back on the 5th-6th september? Has anybody done this before? It is 150Km on the sat and the same on sunday. You raise 250 euro sponsorship and everybody stays in Flannerys Hotel in Galway. Hotel and food is included.
    Is it well organised ?

Did it 2 years ago, three groups.. I was in the middle one and we were on the bike for less than 5 hours so the pace was high but easy enough to stay with. Hotel and dinner was fine, and in general was very well run.. was considering it this year but have a race the same week and €250 might be a bit hard to raise these days.

I have done it for the last six years but unfortunately will miss it this year. It is run by the Lakeside Wheelers club in Mullingar. It is in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute in Galway. It starts from the rugby club in Mullingar on Saturday morning and it is split into groupr depending on ability, last year there were five groupd doe to the increasing numbers. It is very well tun with a back up vehicle with each group and a motor bike Garda which is great for going through towns and traffic lights. The groups vary being in ability so be careful to pick the right one, the last group going out will be very fast so you will have no hiding place, somewhere in the middle is best. There is one stop on the cycle and that is in Ballinasloe where you will need money for food(soup, sandwiches etc..). The minimum sponsorship to be raised is 250 euro, this covers dinner in Flannery's hotel and bed and breakfast there. There is always a great night in the hotel and the trick is not to overdo as you have another 150k the next day, learned that the hard way.
Would recommend it, the only thing about it is the route, pretty flat but it is quite boring - just long straight stretches. For the entry fee, you also get a commerative cycling jersay.

Thanks Guys for your help. Do you decide in advance who you will share room with? I presume they are shared.

If you have any particular preferences then by all means let the organisers know and they'll try and accomodate you.

Thats the way it works, on the application form, it asks who if you have a preference for who you want to room with and as far I know they will run with that. If you are thinking of taking part, you should get on to them fairly quickly as I know thay cap the numbers taking part.
