i was just wondering if anyone recieved a very aggressive letter basically demanding 8% reduction and all tendered contracts and all general work done and they want 8% back on all work done for the last year and not just on labour but on the whole price of the job this means parts and thing that would have been paid for at that price of the day?

You know I just don't think this one is in line with the charter. I am snipping it and closing it.

Your making an allegation about a semi state which is not evidenced anywhere. It's flagrant, unsupported, unsupportable and frankly possibly wrong.

So unless you've something more remarkable to post other than some sort of baseless conjecture, we'll be getting rid of this thread.

Do you know anything about defamation laws?

so if i edit the second part and just leave the part about the letter?
    can it be left?

everybody doing any work for any publicly funded body has been asked to accept a reduction of 8%. .. Circular I saw did not make it retrospective i.e. that the supplier would have to give back 8% from accounts already paid.

yeah the letter i have asks for 8% back well i could say more like demands it and i have to say if i were to give it back i would have to either get a large loan and let my lads go or just pack up shop and i'm not the only one.

Nuac; I heard about one of these letters where the client was demanding the 8% reduction with retrospective effect for the past 12 months, ie. refund money from accounts that were settled long ago.

Of course, the letter went on to say that the company was not obliged to repay this money, but if it did not, then the company would not be considered for any more work! Surely, this is a form of extortion?

Also they would be in no legal position to demand a 8% reduction. If you were stubborn enough you could not accept it.

yeah i just heard that they calling each contractor in on there own and basically telling them that if they don't give it back they will go on a list and from then on the will not be looked favourably anymore and that the service they have been providing for years means nothing

and what makes me laugh they have only giving out one rise to contractor rates in the last 7 or so years and that wasn't 8%

So you have 2 choices. Insist on the full amount and never get another piece of work, or take the reduction and get work in the future.
    Your choice.
