Reynolds 531 frame repair?

    Hi All,
I have an old super galaxy which for sentiMENTAL reasons I wish to get back into production , given its age it's in good nick.
However although the wheels are true , they are old & I just wouldn't trust them on a downhill , I have a fear that they are near end of life and don't wish
to be using them when they fail!
So the rear dropouts on the frame are 120mm , I'd like to convert to 700c wheels which generally are 130mm and was wondering if anyone knows of a local (Irish) frame builder/ repairer to advise on / extend the dropouts to 130mm?
BTW I have seen sheldon's method and it scares me !

Failing this , any ideas on obtaining new 120mm hubs ?

16hill16, have you tried just basically wedging a 130mm wheel into the dropouts. I've a 531c frame with a 126mm rear spacing & i've been using it as a 10 speed for a couple of years now.

    I don't see what's so terrifying about Sheldon's advice.

how do you find getting the wheel in & out for a puncture repair ?
i was thinking of using an axle & gradually stretching the frame wider
my frame is 120mm and its very tight getting a 700c wheel into it
not something i want to be doing on the side of a road
I was hoping to get an "expert" to do it , to ensure the frame stays true
looks like my frame apprenticeship begins ..

Option 1) man up and grab a 2x4.

Option 2) man up and go fixed. 120mm is standard track hub width.

Either way I think you should get some wheels built up on 27" rims rather than go for 700c.

option 2 going fixie at my fitness level would kill me on the first hill
option 1 I'd like to perfect this approach first before attempting on my beloved galaxy
option 3 I did consider a wheel rebuild but my existing 120mm hubs aren't great
any idea on where to get new/newish 27 1/4 freewheel hubs ?
