I've read somewhere that you can change your course in Trinity up to a certain date. That's providing of course there's space for you and you have the leaving cert points required. I'm wondering if anyone knows exactly what the situation with this is! Thanks

You need also to meet the general matriculation requirements, e.g: B3 in hons LC French if you wish to change to French. etc.

But, yes, they will generally do their best to accommodate you, the earlier you are attempting to transfer the better. If you wish to do this, you should go and have a chat with your tutor and get them to sign off on a application to transfer course.

I'd recommend giving the course a try first. I know I was surprised by what I was studying when I got into first year.

http://www.tcd.ie/Admissions/undergraduate/apply/transferred/within-trinity/ <-- info there, though bear in mind those are last year's dates and the first term starts a good bit earlier this year. First deadline will probably be the Friday of the second week of term.

I made a mistake on my CAO:eek: I thought I had changed my top two choice around when I hadn't, and so when my offe came and I realised the mistake it was too late. I met my tutor during freshers week and mention it to him then. He had to fill out a form, which had to be approved my the junior dean (just a formality apparently), and then the department you are trying to transfer into is informed of your decission to move, and IF they have room and IF you have the points and other requirements then they will most likely take you (though they don't have too, but they almost always will if they have the room). However, you have to wait until an inter-departmental meeting takes place before you are transfered. You will get a formal letter informing you if you get your transfer or not. Sounds complicated but it took about 2 weeks for me, 5 days of which was waiting for an inter-departmental meeting to take place, and you don't have to do much yourself apart from talk to your tutor.
