Thats what you'd expect-Lacy is just above journeyman and RJJ is RJJ.

He is deluding himself if he thinks he is a forced to be reckoned with again by beating Lacy. It certainly seems that way as he is targeting a fight for Green's IBO crusierweight title in November.

Imo he's doing a fantastic job at promoting himself. Lacy was the perfect opponent for him. He had previously only lost to the undisputed middlewieght champ and super middleweight/light heavy champ also. Ok we all know he's limited etc but Lacy is still a big name and offered a high reward - low risk ratio.

Now hes targeting someone who is barley a cruiser to a title fight. The ibo is gaining popularity and in a while it will be the BIG 5. Its like calling oscar a 6 weight champ when he won wbo title when they werent too long on the go.

Basically the world cruiserweight title win will look better on paper in years to come than it does now.

Anyone else agree with boxrec? Is Jones the 3rd best light heavy in the world? Where do you rate him?

I rate him a has been and if Jones is a top fighter at any weight, then it is quite sad
    for the sport

Jones is my favorite fighter over the last 20 years, he so far past his best I hate to see him fight now, he's ruining himself. The Calzaghe fight was especially sickening

No Jones jnr isn't the 4rd best Light-Heavyweight in the World.

    Hopkins
    Dawson
    Johnson
    Tarver
    Pascal
    Erdei
    Henry
    Diaconu
    Campillo
    Shumenov
    Garay
    Uzelkov
    Mack
    Woods
    Braehmer
    Green
    Kuziemski
    Cleverly
    Cloud
and Jones Jnr himself make up the top 20 at Light-Heavyweight for me(in no order).

Now Jones is ahead of loads of those but he's not top 3 and probably fits in around top 7 after Hopkins, Dawson, Johnson, Tarver, Pascal and Erdei.
Erdei is slipping though and if Jones does want to regain a belt at Light-Heavyweight he's the man to go for, there's tougher fighters.

Cloud fights Woods at the end of this month and if succesful I'd argue he'd be ahead of Jones Jnr is the current LH division. Braehmer fights Kuziemski in about a week and the winner of that fight would be just outside the top 10.

Anyway fighting Green next(even if it is at Cruiser) is a very interesting step for Jones and I'm not sure whether Danny is the perfect guy for Roy to outbox over 12 or the perfect to ko Jones. But this new 'patient' approach from Green will help Jones imo, if you want to beat Jones it's best to set a nice high tempo and try and make the guy really work. Just don't over exert yourself and waste shots when he's tucked up against the ropes, make them count.

So to answer the question is Roy deserving of a #3 place ?, no. But he's still very much a factor at this weight and if succesful against Green we'll be seeing Jones in a high profile fight again with someone I've ranked above him.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dawson ended up fighting him.

It seems some rabid fans of his are getting carried away after the lacy fight. It's going to take another comprehensive beating from a top fighter(like Dawson) for Jones and these people to realise he's past it. His legs are gone and he relies on the ropes too much, that'll work against a limited and demoralised fighter, who is moving up in weight, but won't against a top fighter with good footwork and a high workrate.

Cloud looks a good prospect at light-heavyweight. He should be pushing for a place in the top 5 soon enough.

Considering his age, his style, decline, his recent results and performances... hats off to jones. Just seen the highlight on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jQhT2uMGPk

At 40 to be performing like that is amazing when so many wrote him off after Calzaghe. Ok, I dont for one second see him hanging with the top tier guys, but to dominate Lacy in that fashion shows that while he may come up short against the likes of Calzaghe, he's still a contender, he's still entertaining.

Erdei would be a good fight since its for the linear title.
