Those are very interesting, most of them I hadn't seen before. It is obvious how they advertised it one way in Ireland and another in england. They seem very basic by our standards, but the designs and thinking behind them are interesting in my view. No small wonder they didn't just put put a painting of 4 feathers out as a poster.

They do tend to be basic but always had some kind of meaning in the background, alot of the British ones played on ones conscience

Interesting posters, its strange how you can look so far back to almost 100 years ago and see how recruitment style hasnt really changed.

Heres a modern ad that I noticed has close comparisons.

Interesting, especially the ones regarding Ireland. I rememeber hearing once on a discussion that either James Connolly or Liam Mellowes noticed on the way down from Belfast on the trian, how some of the posters around Belfast had Fight for King and Country with the british lion and the glory of the Empire etc on them. As the train headed south coming to Newry etc the style of poster was changed with images of refugee's and titles like Join and protect Catholic Belgium. Perfidious Albion

I rememeber seeing a Sinn Fein anti conscription poster/cartoon from 1918 with a man bound up with a rope and 10 british soldiers pulling him and 10 pushing him and the caption underneath read " The Irish Conscript " :)

If you have a picture of that why not post it up,I'd love to see things from all aspects of the war period.
