Has it got an NCT. These Meganes give terrible back axle problems and have huge problems going through the test. Very expensive fix. Also make sure all the windows work, another Megane problem and also expensive to fix. After that the engine and gearboxs are actualy good enough. Mind you some of the interior build quality around that time was very poor. IMO 3950 is too much money for it with that mileage. I'd have to say under 3 grand is the max you'd want to be buying it as aprivate punter. Is it in a garage or being sold privately?

I have an 03 Megane with about 40,000 miles on it. I have it since new. I would not recommend that you purchase one. I will certainly never buy another Renault. I found lots of problems - mainly electrical. The main dealer was not very good.

check the water pump was replaced also. Cost me 1k, 2 weeks after buying an '03 scenic when the old pump decided to disintegrate.
