Be wary of using Flashget. http://www.flashget.com/en/download.htm

I installed it to 'catch' Real Audio stream URL's from the BBC. Not used for anything else at all. Just one show. More or less the day I installed it, I noticed traffic coming in and out, the out was about 2k/sec, constantly. No torrent activity or other leeching taking place. The inbound was methodically going through ports, one every second.

I entered Flashget and Malware into Google and got this:

    http://malwarecrawler.com/?p=28

    http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/flashget.com

I can't think of any other way my computer was compromised, basically, I'm running a PC off a 3 midband dongle for email and 'passive' browsing. Using Firefox, Adblock, NoScript, Firewall and PeerGuardian, fully updated AV.

Apologies if this sounds smug, but I haven't been nobbled by a virus\malware, in years.. just comes as a shock.

Even though the Flashget website is apparently no longer compromised, Kaspersky state that the software is vulnerable due to the way it is constructed and behaves.

Make up your own minds about it. Just a heads up.

I've learnt my lesson, a Dban and re-image.
