    Anyone seen these?: http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=175356&se=1295

Looks great. But what about VRT, VAT and Motor Tax?

From the (UK) site, it mentions that it's eligible for a FOC tax disc in the UK, but what about here in Ireland?

VAT, VRT and Motor Tax aside, I'm having a hell of a job trying to find a company who'll insure one of these.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Right, making progress..

    VRT is free:
Electric vehicles and electric motorcycles** Exempt from VRT until 31 December 2010
    ..
**An electric vehicle/motorcycle is propelled by an electric motor only.

    Tax is €31 a year:
    Cycles and Tricycles:
    Electrical
    31

Still unsure about VAT though. If it's the same is importing a car, I'm thinking £405 = €469. 21.5% of 469 = €100 VAT due.

So that would bring the total to €600, registered in Ireland and taxed for a year.

    Now to find insurance..

Chinese garbage. Why would you buy one?

Had an electric scooter and EVT-168 but since sold this (my job moved and it wasn't been used)

Re the VAT, VRT, etc. The VRT you've figured out a big fat €0! (thank emmissions based VRT rates). The VAT will be at the discretion of the reg office but the most you are looking at is 21.5%, if that happends you can claim 17.5% back from the original purchase in the UK.

Re Insurance Aon insured me on the EVT but classed it as a regular scooter. There is a petrol cc equivalent of the bike on the reg cert (for the EVT it was 33cc) and this is the basis of the assessment.

Right, been speaking with Aon. Bottom line is, they've offered me a quote of €261 (TP).

Quite happy with that. Brings total cost to €891 including bike, delivery, zero VRT, VAT, years Motor Tax and years insurance.

So..should I buy it? Or is it just Chinese junk?
