Frank Spotnitz, 3 New Shows

I've been a fan of Spotnitz since I was a kid the X-Files was a real turning point in my life and while I will admit that come the end it did loose it's way, it remains the defining show of the 90s and one of the most important shows in the history of the medium. Since the X-Files ended Spotnitz really hasn't done much and while I did enjoy his Night Stalker redux I do feel that he has been wasting his talent.

Good news then that he has 3 shows in various stages of production though being honest the fact that he and Chris Carter are working together on a feature is far more interesting news.
Frank Spotnitz has announced that he has 2 projects in development for HBO, both of futuristic nature.

One of them, according to Variety, is "Humanitas" "...set in a time when major advances in medicine have created dilemmas for doctors and fanned fears that a devastating pandemic is imminent. Spotnitz just turned in the first draft of a script that he is exec producing along with Gavin Polone."

The second project for HBO is "a smallscreen rendition of Robert Silverberg's famed 1971 sci-fi novel "The World Inside." Book revolves around a grim vision of the future where overpopulation has run amok, and people live in carefully controlled urban centers where frustration and anger are eliminated, sex is rampant and fertility is the most prized human attribute."

Besides these 2 projects in development for HBO, Spotnitz has been working also in a project for FX named "Arc", a pilot based in the real life of a person involved in the world of covert operations, and "The Star Chamber" a feature in development alongside Chris Carter, at 20th Century Fox.

Now if only someone could get Fox to bankroll a 3rd X-Files film and let Carter wrap it all up. He has spoken of setting the final film in a world post alien colonisation and if that doesn't make your heart skip a beat there's no hope for humanity.

Certainly good news. Frank seems like a very sound guy, I'm happy for him and Chris Carter. They've a good partnership, though I think I would have preferred the late Kim Manners to direct the second XF film. Let's hope they do good work, not everyone knocks on HBO's door and gets a positive response.

It would be good to see a third XF film, but I'm wary of the mytharc from the later years of the show..
