    what format do i use when burning a dvd for dvd player > playback??

    It depends on the player itself. Try using .avi , or .wmv both a popular formats.

    If your DVD player supports avi, that's fine. But it depends on the exact capabilities and format support of your DVD player.

    Otherwise, you'll need to use a program to convert and burn the video file into proper DVD format. avi2dvd is a free example.
