They changed systems as the previous supplier went bust. So any reports may not reflect current system.

I think they just resell someone else in Ireland.

The someone else you refer to would presumably be NBS? Who do they use now?

Generally I'm looking for a half-way decent 2-way satellite broadband supplier in Ireland, but from everything I've read so far this seems to be a waste of time.

eircom never used NBB, ABB. The NBS hasn't got any satellite yet, that will be Avanti's Hylass1. Avanti are very small UK company with no current product useful in Ireland.

Digiweb is the largest, and 2nd largest in Europe. They have 2 to 4 different 2 way sat systems for different depth of pockets/Application. They did some eircom in the past.

Any sort of decent contention and cap is very expensive on Satellite, but if Hylass1 and Eutelsat's Kasat are both successful (2010) then there will be nearly 1000x more capacity. Which means 10Mbps speed, 10Gbyte to 20Gbyte caps and €20 price. The Kasat is the important one as it is by far the larger capacity and at 13E with two beams dedicated for Ireland.

For larger commercial users there is Hughes.

The minimum latency is about 790ms.

Watty, just curious if you could forward these facts and figures that you obviously have to back up your statements that Digiweb are the largest provider in Ireland and 2nd largest in Europe. Otherwise give up the schilling ! Appreciate you may be quite knowledgable in technology, but I hazard a doubt on your commercial sense...looking forwrad to that document to back up the facts though...

    Watty:
Eircom did use NBB/ABB, they inherited the 1-way mediasat customers and tricked them into moving to Astra.
