    Hi,
I'm hoping to transfer into a possible vancent space. THe course i wish to transfer into is DC120, Enterprise& Computing. Does many people study this course each year? Is it full or is there a possibilty of there being vancent spaces?

last year it was small enough, I was doing computer applications and in the first semester we shared the same modules. After that CA students were given the choice to swap into enterprise computing.

If you can't get into EC, try CA and transferring maybe (explore that possibility.)

Last year was the first year for it so i can't compare it with other years, there wasn't many doing it at the start but many CA students didn't like programming and transferred into EC after first semester.

I think the switching from CA to EC was only so easy last year because it was the first year for EC. Doubt you can just join CA and switch at this stage.

There should be vacancies in EC though.

As far as I know CA doesn't fill up completely so you can apply for it after the Cao offers along with other courses not filled.

When do you think i would know if there was a vacent place or not?
I'm really hoping to get into Either of the courses. Mainly EC.
    Is there a good chance?

There will be no CAO "vacent places" on EC this year. :( Last year it was a new course and it did not totally fill, as it entered the CAO system late. This year it filled from CAO. Also there most likely will be a points difference between CA and EC this year, which was not the case last year.

There may well be places on CA via CAO vacent places.

The news I was afraid of, can you be certain of this?... Hopefully the course will not be filled.

I'am 100% certain. Although I would understand the reluctance to accept as a definitive answer from a boards poster on such an important issue. Why don't you contact the Programme Board Chair directly and ask him directly. Its only an email!

Last year both CA and EC were 300. Both most likely to rise above, in paticular EC, but not as far as the lofty heights of 380. So post-semester 1 exams transfer should be possible.
    BTW its EC not CE!

Just out of curiosity why do you think CA is going to have higher points this year? It's been at 300 points for the past 4 years. If the points change for EC alone then the common first year will surely be done away with, after all it would be a bit of back door to do CA and transfer if you didn't have the points for EC, and vice versa.

I would definitely welcome a change in points though, more often than not people see the low points and assume the course will be a cake walk, only to find out that it's quite the contrary. I can understand it having low points though tbh, there isn't much the Leaving Cert offers in preparation to do a computing degree, so putting it at 300 means most candidates will have a relatively good work ethic and level of intelligence going into the degree. One blatantly failing area though is the maths requirement, which should be higher in accordance with the level of maths taught in CA. For someone like me who just got over the minimum I struggled with the Maths, passed everything else, but oh how I struggled with the Maths.

    Alas,
I got my course in NUIG. My only hope now is a transfer from CA to EC. Who in the College would be the best to talk to about this matter? Any body have the e-mail for the chair?
I really do hope there's avaiable spaces in CA, However i dont think they can do away with the ability to transfer this year as wouldnt they have to inform people of such being the case!?

As you saw this morning, EC is 335 and CA is 315

Yup, you could only transfer if you have the min points, so if you you are in CA and have less than 335 then transfer before end of year 1 is not possible, but after year 1 (if you pass all exams) is still an option.

Thanks for your fast reply, you've been of great help! What do you think my chances are of getting a place on CA? I am still hoping to get in there and transfer. Would you be able to point me in the right direction for email addresses of the chairs?
    thanks again.
Finger's crossed this might work!!! :D

Hey there! The chair of CA is David Sinclair, his email his david.sinclair@computing.dcu.ie

The chair of EC is Rory O' Connor, his email is roconnor@computing.dcu.ie

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the help, It's not looking good it seems that a greater numbers of students have applied for the course (CA)this year compared to previous years.
Sorry If i'm being repetetive but does anyone know if the course filled up via the Cao system this year DC121 (CA)?

If it's filled up, I'll just sit here and watch them drop like flies. :)

Please contact the relevant course chairpersons. Like most universities/colleges DCU will do its best to facilitate transfers rather than losing students. The opinion of people on boards is often good advice but is not the definitive answer.

It appears the answer is yes it will fill from CAO, as there is less places than previous years, thus the increase in points from 300 to 315.

Neither of the courses appeared on the CAO vacent spaces today, Is this my last hope dashed. Is there any more chances of vacent spaces? Can i transfer from any other course within the college??

    It's really not looking good.

Forget vacant places etc, you are a DCU student, yes? You are not addressing the issue, you need to contact your course chair and the course chair of the programme you wish to transfer to. DCU will do its best to accommodate transfers rather than lose a student.
