Trying to move my dads iTunes library to a different laptop, Ive done this twice before so know what im doing and understand the whole thing, i've done all the steps as far as consolidating the library once i select the option to consolidate it prepares a copy and stops for no reason and there is no dialog box explaining why, there is only 10gb of music and there is 63gb of space left and there is 14gb of room on the hard drive so space isnt the problem anyone know why? or another way of moving the library except for putting it on dvds as the drive is broken.

iirc you can back it up,
reload itunes onto the new laptop and click restore from cd or cd's (the cd or cd's of the original itunes back up)

I'd copy whole library folder on to an ext Hard drive then Open new itunes and click 'file" and "add to library" then search for folder on ext HD. it means then you'd also have a back up of library on Ext HD. you might have to authorise new Laptop to play any protected purchased music. try play song and will ask for apple id and password. you can authorise 5 computers

ive heard of this method too, but if you dont mind, can you explain what libary folder i would need to copy to ensure i get every song?

i will be changing laptops too very soon and this sounds like an easier method.

Might be something like /Users/kceire/Music/ITunes/ITunes Music or Macintosh HD: Users: kceire: Music: ITunes: ITunes Music: Artist: Album: Track01.mp3 for each tune (if you Get Info in iTunes)

Not sure if this will help. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9912996

If you lick oN preferences in iTunes you will see the path for your iTunes music folder. Just copy and paste this in to a search and then copy the results to new hard drive.
