Hi all, had a system installed a while back and it has never sounded right.
4ch amp and a seperate sub amp. I've messed with it time and time again but when it comes to crossover frequencies and what's actually controlling what I'm lost.

Currently have system set to 'flat' and the sub set as slave and crossing over at about 100Mhz or so the sound is fine but not 'amazing' as it should be.

Looking for someone to come out and make it all good for me. Anyone up for the job? or anyone know who i might contact?

    Cheers
    Grif

A few things pop into mind reading your post...
    • What type of car (hatch/sedan)?
    • What kind of enclosure for the sub and subwoofer size?
    • What kind of bass are you looking for low, punchy or even?
    • What crossover are you using on sub and other speakers?
    • Amps and true RMS rating?
    • Have you got decent guage cables (rca,speaker/power), also good earth?
    • What doesn't sound right everything or just the bass?
    • Where are you located?

Great thanks for the reply here's the info
    • What type of car (hatch/sedan)?
      E46 convertible beemer
    • What kind of enclosure for the sub and subwoofer size?
10" Orion in a sealed enclosure mounted behind rear seats using rear arm rest area as a port*
    • What kind of bass are you looking for low, punchy or even?
Punchy but even? Not ghetto thumping :-)
    • What crossover are you using on sub and other speakers?
At the moment I have the max MHz going to all speakers and cossover set to flat. The sub amp is set to crossover at 100mhz and I have it's dynamic thingy set to about half way
    • Amps and true RMS rating?
      Here's the spec

      HU: Stock
      Amp1: Orion HP4800 4way. 65watts rms x 4 into 4 ohms*
      Speakers:*
      Front: Orion Component HCCA 6.2
Rear: Orion Component C Series C2.52

      Amp2 HDCCA 1200
      Sub Orion HP 10D4
      10 Inch 1000 Watt 4 Ohm Subwoofer
    • Have you got decent guage cables (rca,speaker/power), also good earth?
Cables seem decent. Think it's earthed correctly
    • What doesn't sound right everything or just the bass?
Everything really. I've tinkered with it for hours and had it sounding ok but there was something not right. Really notice when friends stock systems sound better! Volume is there sure but it sounds cold and flat. Bass is too boomy or non existant depending on whether source is radio or iPod.

Well the fact that it is a convertible is not going to help a lot containing the bass or audio in general (creating fullness) but I am not suggesting it is the sole issue but I've seen similar things in the past with same systems in a Golf and Golf cabrio (soft top).

Orion is known for their great components and I think it might be a simple problem somewhere like inverted phase or even a gain problem. I won't disregard a possible wiring problem either. I can understand the fluxuation between sources like radio/cd and iPod.

TBH the best would be to check everything from source to end and make sure all connections like power, earth's and RCA's are working properly and that there are not significant losses anywhere in the system.

I can certainly have a look at the system for you. PM me and we can arrange something...
