With the greatest respect I have 3 I dont read them I use the internet and surf for ideas.

However my books are very general for example they tell you what type of nails you buy for floors walls etc but if i want a specialist book on say tiling i go to the libarary.

The book i found most helpful was

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Complete-Manual-Albert-Jackson/dp/000412894X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1250263057&sr=1-3

I bought that Collins book years ago from one of those book clubs, might have been €10 or so. I'd second Joey, re: the internet, especially in relation to woodwork. Tauntons do excellent specialist books on woodwork and other crafts; I've bought loads of these and refer to them quite often for more specialised stuff. As with anything else though don't believe all you see or read on the interweb, there's a lot of badly informed stuff out there, but this is usually fairly easy to spot. If in doubt ask a pro, they'll sometimes fill you in on the pitfalls and steer you in the right direction!
