Hi, I just book Farnham Estate for my wedding in 2011! My fiance and I stayed down there for the night and had a beautiful meal and used their amazing spa! We met with their banquet manager the next day and she gave us the grand tour and we just fell in love with the banquet hall because its allows for so much privacy on the day as it is away from the other guests of the hotel. Every minute in the hotel was just brilliant and we can't wait to have our wedding there!!

We checked out the Cavan Crystal, unfortunately it wasnt available for us but it was a fabulous hotel. One of the nicest we had seen. We were not comfortable in Farnham at all, we found the room to be a little to tight especially considering we would have 200 guests, as fabulous as the hotel was it just did not suit us at all. We went for Crover house as we loved the old style manor house feel to it and the function room was HUGE. We were treated fantastic and could not have asked for more.

farnham is a fantastic hotel but the room set up isn't great. the bar is at one end, the dance floor at another and just outside the room there's a load of couches where people tend to gravitate through the night. cavan crystal is a better setup where everyone stays together in the same area making a better atmosphere

I heard that one of these hotels is in trouble but cant remember which one however rumours like that go around and are not always true. Perhaps enquire with them and find out. I'm off to look at Cavan Crystal soon also. Have you thought about Slieve Russell either, its doing a brilliant midweek deal at the moment.

We recently looked at both hotels and thought Farnham Estate was the one even to the point of provisionally booking our date, however we found the staff in Farnham particularly difficult to deal with and they will not negotiate with anything in their package, which in today's climate is unrealistic. They don't even do a menu testing as they say they are so confident in their product that they don't need to. We thought the staff in Cavan Crystal were absolutely fantastic, very accommodating and they made us feel very comfortable unlike Farnham but the grounds outside this hotel I think let it down. In the end we decided to go for Dunboyne Castle as they had the combination of both, exceptionally good staff that gave us a very good deal that much better than what was advertised and the hotel grounds look great. So in the end we're very happy we gave Farnham a miss.

We came to the same conclusion about Farnham, we found the staff made us feel uncomfortable, we arrived with our kids to check it out and we really felt like we were being looked down upon during the whole tour. In order to keep our guests happy though we were going to book it as there were plenty of rooms in the hotel but they refused to drop the room rate for our guests, at the time it was something like 170 for the night. So a similar expeince overall to you rman.

I was in Dunboyne Castle recently and I have to say you have made a fabulous choice, teh hotel and grounds are amazing and I would love to shoot their one day, the hotel itself was gorgeous, although I was just attending a kids show I didnt see much but what I did see was gorgeous.

Stayed in Farnham last summer for a midweek break and I have to say the problem they had with flies was disgusting. They were in the lobby area where the bar area is (where they also serve food) and the main restuarant where they served breakfast and dinner also suffered badly. Mentioned it to the girl on reception on check out and she said "Oh yes the banqueting manager was aware of that, we thought we had it sorted but obviously not, I'll let her know"

I've been at a couple of weddings in the cavan crystal and i have to say i found it excellent. the food was lovely and it was the first wedding where they didnt rush everyone off to the bar to make to room ready for the band. Everyone stayed together the whole night and no one went to the bar upstairs the whole night!
