I am currently working part time, have been in the same job for just over a year working Tuesday evening, (4 hours) + Saturday and Sunday both 8 and a half hours each. I have never worked full time before but I was in college. I live at home with my parents and I have withdrawn from my college course. I cannot find a full time job and damn have I tried. Are there any benefits available to me at all?

Any help would be very appreciated.

Because you haven't suffered a loss in employment (ie have always been working the same hours in your part time job) you will not qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit (even if you have enough PRSI Contributions). You can apply for Jobseeker's Allowance and submit casual dockets every week and get paid for the days not worked by you - however your earnings from your part time job will be assessed as means, as will your parents income if you are under 25.
Also if you sat your summer exams, you have to wait until the start of the next college year before you can make your claim.

Would workin 20 hours a week over 5 days (ie. 4 hours a day for 5 days) entitle to anything?

Very unlikey, afaik ja works on the basis of days worked rather than hours worked. Itd be much better if you do 2and a half days rather than 5 half days

Nope, excluding sunday you could only work 3 days out of the 6 to qualify. As was said its nothing to do with the hours, just days. If you worked 1 hour a day, that would still count as a day for social welfare

yeah was on jobseekers before in another job, now my current job has cut the balls out of my hours, now i earn less a week then someone on the dole.

Thought there might have been a differant scheme for people on my sort of contract.

If you earn less than someone on the dole, try contacting your CWO officer regarding supplementary welfare allowance. Info on it is here. The bit you are interested in is:
If your weekly income is below the Supplementary Welfare Allowance rate for your family size, a payment may be made to bring your income up to the appropriate Supplementary Welfare Allowance rate.
So if you are earning below the social welfare rate they may give you a payment to bring you up to this amount.
Also if you have children you should look into Family Income Supplement.

Could you tell me more about the casual dockets you talk about? If I manage to get the job seekers allowance and if I decide to go back to college next year (I will turn 21 in august next) could I be entitled to the back to education allowance?

I doubt you would get the jobseekers if you are in collage, its deigned for people who work 3 days or less.

I am no longer in college and I do only work 3 days a week but one of them is a Sunday. I don't think sundays count towards the days I work a week.

As previous posters have said if you havent suffered a substantial loss in employment you wont be able to claim full JB. What you could do is get a job delivering leaflets or so for two days for 13 weeks or so - and this would then qualify for the substantial loss of employment if by chance you were let go....

That sounds like a good plan but even those jobs are hard to find now...

Thats good to know. hmmmmm, gotta find some way of getting some extra cash. I have enquired with my job and they can't give me full time. I have been trying for months now...meh, I have some form of job at least.

For social welfare, the earnings you make from mon - sun inclusive will be assessed as means for Jobseeker's Allowance. However, if you work a sunday, that will not be counted as one of the days you work for the 3 days in 6 rule (if you work a 4th day (not sunday) you will not get paid from SW that week).
Casual dockets mean you fill out and send in a docket every week marking what days you have worked and that decides your payment.

I thought you were under 25?? Do people under 25 only get something like a €100 a week? I could be totally wrong - just thought that came in in the last budget

Sorry to Hijack this thread but I was wondering the same kind of thing. At the moment I work 26hours spread over 5 days but come september that will be reduced 16hrs over 2 days( sat and Sun). For these two days I would earn more than what the JSB would give but not if Sunday is not included. There seems to be conflicting accounts whether it is or not? Also is the max you will ever get a combined total of your wage and what the JSB is. i.e 204€
    thanks

    Hi guys

I'm currently working a thirty-five hour week as a seasonal tourist advisor, four days on two days off. However the summer season is drawing to a close and my hours will soon be cut drastically. I will only be working two to three days a week at most. My question is whether or not I am eligible for the "casual dockets" or "Xs and Os" scheme if I spent the summer of 2007 working in Spain, worked only weekends in a shop when I returned in September (as I was in college) and worked part time in the same shop for the following summer (2008). Would I have enough stamps built up to claim or am I completely wide of the mark in even asking that question!! I have never been on Social Welfare before and the system bewilders me! Any advice ye could offer would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks a million

    Em

I was wondering i someone could help!? i am working as a child minder 3 days per week on the books, I'm getting 300 for those 3 days as they are over nigths etc. but my bills per week are 290 as i'm renting on my own and cannot find someone to house share, not leaving with enough to even put enough petrol in the car to get to work the whole time, not to mind buy food and misc. expenses. would I still qualify for part time work stamps/prsi? Thanks for any help!

3 days or less will entitle you to get jobseekers allowance for the other days you dot work.
    Do you get pay slips?
