The cables that you get with the PS3 are AV composite and will give you the worst possible video quality from your PS3. If you have been gaming using these cables with your last few consoles you have been getting aboslutely disgrace visual quality from your consoles. Now if you have a HDTV you can improve the visuals by buying a HDMI cable for your PS3. Get the cheapest one you can afford since the cable quality won't affect the signal. You will then be able to get 720p and 1080p visuals from your PS3.

If you only have a standard definition TV you need to get a RGB scart cable. A proper RGB scart cable. This won't give anywhere near the visuals of the HDMI cable but will give way better visual quality to your PS3 and oyu will be able to read text. Make sure you select RGB scart output in the PS3 options and also some TVs only have one scart socket wired for scart so use the AV1 channel or the equivalent primary AV channel.

By the way a PS2 scart cable will also work on the PS3. Make sure it's a proper scart RGB cable, the red yellow and white cable is NOT scart.

All games are designed for HD these days so you're being hindered by your SD TV.

If you're getting a picture via RGB/SCART chances are your settings are ok but just in case go to the display settings on the PS3 and check that everything's a-ok.

When i didn't have a HD TV I could read text just fine with a scart cable. Also the original poster is not using RGB/SCART. It's a common mistake to make but for a SD TV the supplied cables in the PS3 are the worst you can get.

Remember people complaining about not being able to read the text in Dead Rising on an SDTV. Well it's perfectly fine if you are using a proper RGB SCART but most people don't realise that you can get significantly better visuals out of a standard definition TV by getting rid of the red yellow and white pieces of **** and getting a proper RGB scart.

Games are still made with SD in mind just not composite SD.

Double check your connections. Make sure they're fully inserted. This happened to me before and I got it working by giving them a slight push.

Any game store will have one and you shouldn't have to pay more than 20 euro.
