upgrading to HD from Sky+ - no cabling?

    Hi folks,
A Sky engineer is due to visit my house tomorrow to install Sky HD.

I already have Sky+, so am I right in thinking I have all the required cabling already in place? 3 different people in the Sky call centre told me the Engineer would "need to install extra cabling"!! I was tackling them over the €50 installation fee, which they eventually agreed to waive.

I'd prefer if the engineer just kept it simple and swapped the box over, cos I have all my existing cables neatly routed, and I have a perfect signal (my signal strength / quality are around the 90% mark!).

Once the cabling is working correctly there is no need for him to replace existing. I upgraded a fortnight ago, engineer just swapped my Sky+ box out and installed the new one, was in and gone in less than 20 mins. Decent lad too, when he rang me the day before installation I asked what make of boxes he had on board. He only had Amstrad ones, I asked (nicely) was there any chance of a Pace box as I always preferred Pace to anything else with previous decoders. No chance, Amstrad was all he had, did I want to cancel the job? Decided against that as I was waiting a few week at that stage. He rang me back half an hour later to say he had sourced a Pace from one of his colleagues and duly installed it the next day.

The only difference in the cabling is the addition of the HDMI to conect the box to your tv.

Cheers guys, just as I thought. Pity someone wouldn't tell the call centre staff! I'll ask the installer about the Pace box too, as I believe the other boxes don't have the new EPG?

Which call centre did you get tru too?

If I could get the €50 installation fee waived I would consider upgrading?

The one in Cork. I got through to the cancellations dept, on the pretence of considering a move to NTL (heaven forbid!) and after a bit of too'ing and fro'ing, I'm getting the box + install for nothing. Still have to pay the extra monthly sub though obviously. It's worth calling the cancellations dept.

That is correct, they have stopped rolling out the new EPG to Amstrad and Samsung boxes due to too many glitches that need to be ironed out. It's working fine on my Pace box.
