    Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help. I have jailbroken my iphone with purplera1n and attempted to install purplesn0w through cydia. It says the package has been installed but whenever I insert my meteor sim it says locked sim and only allows emergency calls. Any advice???

    Thanks

Yeah entered in the pin number...gave me 3 attempts, once entered it only gave me an option to make emergency calls and I was locked out of the iphone. Any ideas......?

Thanks for the reply by the way.

    cheers

    Hi beta frog

it shows a no service logo where the operator reception should be (i am in an area with bad meteor reception anyway so no big suprise)

in the top centre is a small padlock icon (which disappeares when i slide the bottom slider bar across)

The whole screen is taken up with an image of a usb cable connecting to the itunes logo. (I connected to itunes an still nothing)

At the bottom is the slider ("slide for emergency") which takes me to a screen with my home logo (the earth) and a dialpad for emergency calls only.

I had to get a replacement 3gs and I am pretty sure I didn't activate the replacement.

By activating I presume you mean registering my serial number etc with apple?

I am still on 3.0, have not upgraded to 3.01.

yeah I may cancelled that screen because i already had an account and had already registered. Please don't tell me I have to start from scratch....... :o

well thanks a million for all your help beta frog. It solved the problem for me anyway ;)

By the way I hear the redsn0w jailbreak and unlock works with 3.01 and maybe better than purplera1n. Any opinion on that.

Also my sms messages are coming in 7 or 8 hours after they were sent. saying as 3.01 was to remedy some sms loophole, do you think it would be worth upgrading the firmware....?

    Thanks again :)

hey beta frog when I try to restore itunes will only let me restore to 3.01 and not to the original 3.0 os. How can I restore without updating the firmware?

Found out that if you hold shift while clicking the restore it lets you choose the firmware.....only problem is, where do I locate the 3.0 firmware file to select??

Did you ever see this screen when you plugged the new iPhone in?

    Hey there

I'm having a similar problem, I'm not getting service either. I have a new phone that is unlocked. I have my old information backed up and don't really know where to start in this process.
From your posts I'm thinking I need to reset the phone completely with iTunes which will sim lock it again. If I do this then will iTunes ask me to activate the phone even though there will not be a valid sim in the phone?? After which point I unlock it again and then restore my backup again to get my numbers etc...

Restoring from itunes each time is a long process so I think this will take me all night so really appreciate help soon as anyone can..
    Tnx

I'm having a similar problem and the phone is for my daughter's birthday :( She's not impressed, can anyone help me out? Wifi is still working for me though.

I bought the phone second hand jailbroken, restored it to 3.0.1 using itunes, jailbroke it using redsnow 0.8 and unlocked it using ultrasn0w.

I don't have the original sim either but I am using an O2 prepay sim.

Should I jailbreak it again without the sim in the phone?

Just to let you know, I still haven't managed to unlock my iphone. I tried redsn0w and ultrasn0w. I restored the iphone 3gs and installed purplera1n and reinstalled purplesn0w. Cydia is on the springboard and works fine, so it is definately jailbroken.

But everytime I try a sim (vodafone and meteor) it automatically switches to the emergency call screen! For some reason, even though I am on 3.0 os, I can't unlock this phone. Really frustrating!

The only thing I haven't tried is to get a new o2 sim with my number registered on it and hopefully the activation screen will pop up on itunes so I can try and reactivate it?! Not holding much hope for this.

    Any suggestions?

Still no luck. upgraded to 3.01 firmware installed redsn0w and ultrasn0w. I am getting the vodafone logo and reception bars appearing at the top of the screen but the " different sim inserted " pop up still appears and only allows me to make emergency calls.

For some reason my iphone is unlockable!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭portcrap

    Problem Solved!!:D

I restored the iphone and upgraded the firmware to 3.01

I then put in the sim I wanted to use with the iphone - vodafone

The screen locks to the wrong sim inserted emergency calls only screen.

I then jailbroke it with redsn0w (with the vodafone sim in it)

    Installed Ultrasn0w through cydia

    Restored my backup.

    Hey Presto...sorted!

ok have upgraded to 3.01 and succesfully jailbroken the device but still cant get any signal when i use sim cards? when i use a o2 sim it just says 'waiting for activation, may take some time' what do i have to do to activate it is there anyway around this as i dont have the original sim for the phone?

this used to be a bill phone by the way if that makes a difference?

    I got it sorted,well kinda.

I rang apple customer care yesterday 1850 946 191 and told them that I could not get a signal. So they went through to whole "restore" thing aswell as turning on and off the 3G and getting a new sim from O2 with to no avail.

So they have said its a hardware problem and gave me 2 options?

1.Send me a box, then I send it back to them to repair it

    or

2.Pay them €39 and they will send me a brand new one within 24Hrs and get UPS to take the old 1 off me when they deliver the new one

For €39 its not bad at all.

Bout a hr later I get a call from the O2 shop saying I was next on their list for a 3GS which they had in stock as a guy they were holding it for doesnt want it.

So I now have 2 :) The brand new 3G will be making its way to adverts lol

This mite or mite not help anyone but the fact I could get a brand new 3G for €39 its great. But remember your iphone has to be under warranty like mine was(well I was blessed,Apple said I had only 8 days left on it)

Surely you have to return your original one ?

Hi Smyths, sorry for not replying sooner. Can you get the original sim or a replacement one from o2. If you get one from o2 that should do the trick. It doesn't take long for activation to happen once connected to an o2 network. They must have a special iphone sim...

You only mention that you jailbroke the iphone but not unlocked it. Did you jailbreak it with the sim in the iphone? What jailbreaking method did you use?

My suggestion is to backup the iphone. rejailbreak the iphone using redsn0w with the sim card in the iphone. Then unlock it from cydia using ultrasn0w. Alternatively get a new sim from o2 or ring applecare and see if they have any suggestions. It always be a hardware issue.

    Hi guys,

Vodafone gave x2 iphone 3gs to the company my friend works for. One in box and one activated one vodafone network.

I want to buy and use it sim free.

should i go for pre-activated one or boxed one.

Will i have any trouble jailbreaking the EITHER of them- version 3.1.1

ie- if activated by friends company does this mean i need the registration details for future?

if the non activated one is the best option can i unlock without activation and will there be any restrictions?

any other advice? what functions will not be available?

thank you very much in advance!
