The 6.67 figures were from pre-Tour power tests, and for only 20-25 mins.

    6.67 * 0.95 = 6.3365, which != 6.67.

And 0.95 is only an approximation.

Lim has also gone on record saying > 6 indicates high chance of doping, (for which I am trying to find the link).

You are mistaking FTP and threshold power. (i.e. the 0.95)

Possibly. I don't understand the difference.

eeerm, i'll let the drug testing decide, really getting fed up with talking about doping, been doing it since 1998. fraid i've gone full circle if the tests dont find anything i'll live with that, if they do kick em out its the only way i can enjoy the sport anymore.

I agree with Lumen here. A 6.67W/kg best for a 20-25min interval doesn't tell you what kind of watts he is putting out at threshold.

If he was putting at 6.67W/kg repeatedly, as part of 2x20 or 3x20 sessions or similar, then it would indicate threshold power in the region of 6.67W/kg, but for a once-off test it won't give the full picture.

TBH I'm more bothered by the fact that with those numbers Wiggins got dropped on the hills and didn't make the podium.

amazingly I know given it was a clean tour and LA and AC weren't doping.

Does Allen Lim use a different definition of threshold then Coggan et al use (i.e. FTP)?

(Dunno but on the google groups version of this thread Coggan is making some interesting points :) )

How many people here REALLY believe top flight Grand Tour etc. cyclist are NOT using some doping?

(Same question can be applied to a multitude of sports. I'm NOT singling out cycling as 'bad')

    I don't.

But I believe, in its current form and with the public's and supporters' expectations, it is not surpising.

As long as people expect, and will only accept, superhuman perfornance on a regular basis....drugs will be a part of sport.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's a fact of life :(

AND....just because an athelete has never been tested positive DOES NOT mean that they are clean.....

Nor does it mean they're doping... :)

    Think about it.

I have come to the conclusion that they must be all sleeping at altitude and riding/racing at sea level .... i.e. using oxygen tents which are widely available and portable and cost less than $10,000 .....
Question is has the same results as blood doping and EPO use ... but it's not illegal at the moment is it ?

Now there is a spanner in the works ....

Would going for a spin after 20 Bensons have the same effect? :D

I used to use the Benson method many years ago, it had the opposite effect for me !!

    As for Tunney's post, it's hardly a surprise !

I don't believe it is quite as effective, but I would be very surprised if the top riders were not all doing this (it is perfectly legal, and indeed many are on record endorsing them.)

I thought I read it was illegal in Italy.
