Been advised that the equipment that controls the above has gone on my beemer, it has 65,000k on the clock, is well maintained and not hammered on rough roads or the sort.

I'm just asking is this a problem that others have seen on these cars?

I'm fairly lucky as I'm covered in my warranty until late this year as I've only had the car for 8 months... but this is €2500 worth of work to be done!!!

I'm VERY surprised that this has happened as I expected this car to be so stable and reliable I would hope not to spend anything like this on it for years?

The more complex the car, the more likely something is to go a bit wacky... especially in a new and very complex BMW. Just thank your lucky stars it's under warranty.
