    Hello.

    Well that was easy. ;)

    Where to start.
39 year old male, seeks flat stomach and the ability to cycle like....OOOH wait, it's not that sort of forum.

Just back from a spin and I'm happy with myself tonight, I achived a new V-Max. 62 KPH on my trusty Trek (Please excuse the crappy I-Phone photos)

Downhill obviously, Heading down to here.... (Brownie points for the first person to recognise this pub and give me it's location);)

Which brings me to a request,
Having lurked here for some time I have decided to get a new bike for myself. I love my trek and a hardtail really suits me as I like to do the singletracks around here.

I really, really fancy getting a Focus Cayo. But @ 5' 5'' I'm between sizes as the XS is up to 5'5''' and the Small is 5'5'' - 5'7'' So I don't know which to order. I have tried the online help at wiggle but they were not much good. I was recommended to get a medium (54CM) which I would imagine would be far too big for my dwarf/midget legs. Some of the 52CM bikes I have tried even seem too big for me, others seen OK.

I'd really like to "Try on" a 52CM before I order one, I'd be happy to give a nice bottle of red or white to whoever can help me with this. A quick look at the size and spin around a car park should do the job. I have company wheels and am prepared to travel. Or if anyone else my size has one I'm open to opinion.

    Thanks all !!

    Kieran

I'm 5"7 and I have a 51 cm frame (which was a small from wiggle) and any bigger and I woudlnt cycle it at all. You can go into a bike shop and get properly mesured and try a bike :)

I have a 52cm Cayo and I am 5' 7". I think you would be ok with the 52. Where do you live? you are welcome to come have a spin on mine but I live between Kells and Virginia just off the N3.

Can't quite put my finger on it but I'm pretty sure that pub is somewhere in the general vicinity of 1964 to 1972.

havent put the handlebars on yet

nothing prepares you for the size of that downtube (compared to my old steel frame)

won't be riding it in the weather we have today thats for sure

    Thanks Sy,

Just a little too far north for me. If there was someone in Dublin, or in the Portlaoise, Kilkenny, Carlow direction that would be a lot easier for me.

THanks for that, It's comments like that that make me think that even the 52CM would be too big for me. I have tried a couple of 52CM bikes in the shops, some are ok and some seem to have a reach to the bars which is too long for me.

    No takers on the pub?

Not fixed up yet? What's wrong with you!!!

Regarding not riding it in this weather, yep - it's hard getting it mucky for the first time :(

Sounds like you would be best off going for the small, when you are between like that probably either size could suit you.

Note Wiggle do a 7 day test ride - they say it is UK only but worth asking, they used to do it for Ireland also.

picked up yesterday lunch (delivered to north) had OH family (3 adults and 3 kids) round for dinner, going out again tonight (although lezyne pump arrived for it today ....nice proper pump with flexible connector. will do short spin on sat take pics etc. but it looks the mutts nutts, although weird tapping a frame and not getting a metallic sound, also convinced those wheels will last one ride on my usual routes (hope i'm wrong)
    OP apologies for thread hijack

I'm not your size but here is my story.
First I have a 2008 Cayo and I am very happy with it (after changing the seat).
Second I am 6ft (180cm) tall which usually puts me between M + L size frames. I have found that I can set up either frame identically just by changing the stem length(100mm for L and 120mm for M) and similar adjustment on the seat up/down and fore/aft positions.
One thing you might check before you order is that the crank length is suitable or the same as your existing bike if you are happy with that.

The flat tummy thing doesnt come in the box though. It took me 12 Months @200Km per week to earn that without modifying my diet or social life.
Best of luck with it either way.
