I'm looking to get my first car and i don't wanna spend anything much more than a grand for it.
I've looked around and there are a fair few cars for sale for such price.
I wanna get something cheap to run that i can improve my skills in and then sell quickly to buy a Mini or something after i've got the full license.
While at the same time I wouldn't want a cheap nightmare, something that I end up spending more on after i've got it.

So what you guys think would be the best car to buy for under/around a grand??
Something thats basically cheap to run and reliable enough to do the job...

Wait, wait. The old Mini or the BMW Mini? The old one is going to be a nightmare no matter what. Back on topic, what engine size are you looking for? Any particular prefences?

Have a look on Driving.ie, there's loads of cars under €1000.

On a car in this price range you are better judging each car on condition rather than reputation.

Cheap to run, super motor and great craic to hammer along in. Super chassis on this and it doesnt have to be the GTi to fly round bends. Learn to pedal one of these and you'll be a master come next car :D

I'ld love to get an old Mini sometime to work on, but for my next car (the one i'ld get after passing my driving test) i'ld probably be looking at the BMW Mini. Maybe a Cooper S! Its gonna be more practical than the old one and less of a nightmare.

Anyway, I'ld probably be looking for some sorta hatchback.
Not really too picky. Something that'ld be cheap to insure and run. So probably with a small engine.
Again don't really care much about it as i only plan to keep it till i pass my driving test and then sell it for the Mini...
Just something that wouldn't turn out to be a nightmare!

Cheers for the ones so far though. I'll look into them!
