    Hi

Does anyone know the cheapest way to sort a sized turbo on a 2.2 SAAB TiD. Is there any place that fixes these ? Can they be got second hand ?

Anyone hazard a guess what price I'll be looking at?

Theres no power in the car going uphill, mechanic reckons its the turbo.

Is there a lot of smoke out of the exhaust? Could be a boost solenoid faulty causing it to not boost.I guess he checked that already.Did he say it was seized or is he just taking a guess

Mechanic looked at it quickley, he did not open engine up or anything. He felt some pipe if there was suction and seemingly there wasen't .
Is there a way to check if its a boost solenoid ?

I'd suggest taking it to another mechanic if he didnt even look at it properly for you.Feeling a pipe wont diagnose a turbo problem.Did he even drive it with a boost gauge attached?

He did take it for a drive but did not have a boost gauge. Whats the best way to check if its a boost selonid or the turbo ?

Whats kinda costs would I be looking at ?

No answer your ealier question theres is no smoke at all.

    ..you need a better mechanic.

...and forget 2nd hand turbo's - either a new one, or a recon one. Look up the X5 thread for the guy in ........Portlaoise ?...

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Get a better mechanic. Turbo failure is very obvious (lots of white smoke). Could be something as simple as a failed MAF sensor.

Avoid buying a new turbo until you get an opinion from a competent mechanic. Sounds like this one is either a) lazy b) stupid or c) trying to rip you off bigtime.

Ok , I'll prob head to a SAAB Indy and get his opinion.

I was talking to the SAAB indy and he says it would not be the turbo . He says its probably the vacuum hoses as they give trouble.

Another opinion was the waste-gate. Has anyone experience of either of the two prognosis and if they are any easy fix ?
