    Hi,
Im looking for a bit of help with my laptop. It runs on the linux system and im looking to download a vlc player onto it. The problem is that I dont have a clue about linux and all the instructions on the internet are double dutch to me.
Could anyone gimme a quick description of how to go about doing it? If they could theyd be saving me a world of pain!

You might be better off installing a different Linux operating system on there. There's been a lot of criticism of Linpus Lite.

Some good alternatives that are much more pleasant to use are:

    Ubuntu Netbook Remix
    Easy Peasy
    Moblin

I found Moblin horrible. Other 2 are good.

thanks lads, all sound advice, i think id just advise people to stay away from linux in general unless they really know there stuff. Its bloody impossible to get anything onto it, serves me right for being a cheapskate i suppose!

That's not true. Linpus is a bad implementation. If you get Ubuntu, it's actually a lot easier for day-to-day use than Windows.

It's actually much easier to get anything on it. You just need to change your mindset from Windows to Linux ways of doing things.

In Windows you search for an application to do what you want, then search for a download for it, then download it, then install it. In Linux you type in a single command once you know the name and the OS goes off and downloads and installs it for you. Or else you open the software repository which is part of the OS and search by category - then click a button and it goes off and downloads and installs it for you. If there are extra components required - it grabs them too without you having to do anything.

Linpus is a terrible distribution though and I really think it is turning some people off Linux. As others said you should install Ubuntu or Easy Peasy on it instead - you will find it a much more satisfying experience.

Linux is easy the. You don't have to a brain you use it to use it. It easy to get stuff on to it.If you can point an click you you can use Linux.

get easy peasy |They explain how to insatll it on there website, and if have any problems I sure some here will help you , it took me about and hour an half t in total install in on my eeepc701. the actual installing of easy peasy was only about 30-45 mins
