Outlander service interval

Recently bought a Mitsubishi Outlander - fine vehicle. However, one curiosity has emerged, the correct value for the service interval.

The manual with the car says 20,000km, on-line searching also says 12,500 miles (which is 20,000km) yet the sticker the garage put in the window and the value in the countdown-to-service indicator on the dash says 15,000km ?

Is the garage trying to pull a fast one ?

The garage mightn't be pulling a fast one. Modern synthetic oils "can" do up to 30000kms between services. Have you ever seen this oil after this? Its like sludge. Its entirely up to you. Its like the Super Select shift to 4H on the move up to 100kmph. According to my mitsubishi manual - no problem, but the dealer recommends against doing it. If you are doing a lot of work in a dusty environment or run high revs or towing it might be a reason for shorter intervals. This will be stated in the manual in fine print.

Its no harm to be honest. Also is it the vehicle's first service??

Aye, it'll be it's first service.
Will be interesting to see what's recommended as a second service though !

Service intervals on them is every 20k km's or on a yearly basis if it was reg'd from Jan 08. Anything before this it was 15k km. So all depends when it was reg'd. If it says 20k in the book but 15k countdown on the car you could just have a new book. Hard to tell without knowing the year of the outlander.
