I recently changed job and just received my P45 to give to my new employer. Someone mentioned to me that I might be entitled to some tax back.

    Is this true?

Only if your last employer took too much tax from you, or you have been out of work for sometime. Use the Revenue's PAYE Online service to see if you have been over taxed for earlier years. If you were over taxed in this year, then your new employer should be able to correct this through their payroll system.
