Printing problem

I've been messing about with colour masks on a photo and ended up with this.
    P8062785small.jpg

However when I tried printing it I end up with this.

    BWRedTint001.jpg

The resulting print has an overall red tint. I've never tried printing "B & W" before so maybe I don't have the right paper / settings / or whatever.

    What am I doing wrong?

without knowing details i would guess its a profile thing

    I'll try -
Printer - Epson Stylus Photo RX425
    Inks are genuine Epson Inks
Paper is dodgy brand Premium Glossy Inkjet Paper.

Printer Settings - now here's where things get tricky for me.
The image is a jpeg processed in GIMP
Printer is set to the correct size, orientation etc.
Colour Controls are - Gamma set to 1.8 (options are 1.5, 1.8 or 2.2)
Colour Mode set to EPSON Vivid - other option is Charts & Graphs
Brightness, Contrast and saturation are all at 0 - never changed any of them.
The three colours CMY are also all at 0 - default.
High speed printing is switched off.

To print the pic I open it in Ifranview and print it from there. The print preview is perfect, but the final print is red!

    Any help would be appreciated.

yea sounds like a profile problem

and its to do with the fact that your not controlling the colour the print driver is

the way you should do it is

in your photo software, get it to manage the colour, and select the profile for the paper your using (sounds like you dont have one and not likely to get one)

then get the printer to not do any colour management etc

this way the i do prints and would work for what your doing

It looks as if the colour cast that covers the whole image and which makes the dress red is being picked up by the printer software.

Did you solve this problem as it is one that many of us have come across?

Something along the same lines came up recently in relation to colour casts and scanning:

Fajitas might be able to help.

I have started using Photofiltre for printing and it is quite subtle in the changes one can make.

You could try changing the image to greyscale so there is no possibility of colour info being sent to the print driver..

if he converts to greyscale then whats the point in having the dress in red/pink ... why not just desaturate the whole thing?

I can't actually see the images in work (damn proxy server) and just picked up on him printing B&W.

An incorrect assumption on my part that he was printing B&W.

What method are you using for the colour masking?
