Trek 1.5 or alternative?

    Hi folks,

Looking to get a road bike just the odd weekend spin, nothing more. I have no knowledge of road bikes. I can get the Trek 1.5 for about the €400 mark through the cycle to work scheme. It has Shimano Sora to the front and Shimano Tiagra to the rear. Not the best but not the worst i suppose? Would there be any other options?

    Cheers in advance.

I presume €400 is your effective "after the tax saving" price? As it would be very cheap if that is the sticker price.

    Possible alternatives:

Though they are all cheaper than the Trek.

I've been updating the FAQs in order to try and comprehensively cover the 'what bike should I buy' question, so I'm trigger happy with the links today:

Appreciated anyway. Think I'll run with the Trek. I will probably shop local. Going to look in a Giant Stockist now to see whats what

Went with the trek. Happy enough. Got it for €800 before the scheme kicks in. Alright considering a second shop today quoted me €950.

Tommy the Bike, Earl St. Dundalk. Found him very helpful. He threw in a load of gear too that brought it over the €1000 limit for the bike to work scheme but he rounded it back down a decent amount. Couldnt fault the service.

i dont think it does. feck it 800 is a great deal im in limerick though so a drive to dundalk is not very practical for me. i think ill buy local just for fear something went wrong with the bike. thanks for getting back to me

Yeah that is a bit out of your way alright. I did try another place and they had none in stock and couldnt tell when they would get any. Apparantly there is not too many around due to the popularity of the scheme. Good luck anyway.

I bought the 1.9 trek of JMC for €1050 and my mater bought the 1.7 for €850 , if you go there deal with James snr a gentleman Ive been dealing with him down through the years will always be a few hundred cheaper than the south.

    He also does the BTWS
