Hi guys, I am new enough to using macs. I want to get rid of all those apple loops that I installed with Logic Studio cos I don't ever use them much (especially the Soundtrack Pro stuff). Do I just delete the loops in Finder?

I have read something about reindexing the loops browser or something once this is done. I am confused:o

    Thanks

    S

I'm sure a wiser man than I will come along and give you the correct info but ....

One would think that the indexing is linked to Spotlight , so maybe it's a case of Deleting , then re-index with Spotlight .

    go to hd>library>audio.
There are 2 things here. The apple loops folder and the apple loops index.
Instead of deleting them I would suggest copying the the loops folder to an external drive then deleting the loops folder and loops index from your internal drive then empty trash.
Open logic and open the loops browser on the right.
Drag your loops folder from your external drive onto the loops browser in logic and select the option to index loops but leave them where they are.
Logic will now create a new index file and read your loops from the external drive so you can use them if you want.
On my training macbook pro I have the loops on an external portable usb drive because I have logic and final cut studio installed leaving no space for pretty much anything else.
Best of both worlds really. You free up loads of space on the internal drive and can use the loops easily by plugging in your external drive.
Logic will function normally (but without access to the loops obviously) without the external drive plugged in.

    TMS, you are a legend.

I was afraid by deleting/moving the folder I would end up with errors and start up of logic. Thanks a mill for this.

    Hey TMS,

Would you be able to let us know how to get rid of the Logic Sampler instruments as well?

    Cheers

The logic samples live in hd>library>application support>logic.
The folder is called EXS factory samples but it is only about 4GB. No real benefit in moving it.
It can be done using aliases but isn't really worth while to be honest.
If you are using large extra sample libraries it can be worth it but in EXS24 you can select options at the top right of the plugin then virtual memory. It is active by default but if you deselect the "active" checkbox all samples will load to and be streamed from ram so there will be no disk activity when using the sampler. i have 8GB in the mac pro and samples will load into ram and play seamlessly. Logic can only use 4GB of ram in leopard but with Snow Leopard in a few weeks it will be able to use all the ram you can throw at it, being 64 bit
