I have highlight but I want to go back to my natural colour (or as close as possible) without having to go thro the pain of letting them grow out. Should I go to the hairdressers and get them to put a colour over them or should i get low lights thro it first to tone them down and then put in a colour???

Natural colour is brown. Will a home colour kit work?

My natural colour is red and I had highlights in it for years. I decided I wanted to go back to my natural colour and my friend who is a hairdresser did it for me. She had to pre-colour it. She told me this was to get the blonde the same colour as the roots or something like that and then she put in the dye (same as my own colour). I didn't get it done again for another four months, it was great! Apparently the pre-colour is what stopped it from fading.
