Ok guys, just wondering of all the gigging cover bands and solo acoustic guys. How much do you ask for doing yo thang?

I ask this, because I don't want to undersell my bretheren, and some have said that I have undersold.

Here's the thing. As a 4 piece band our bottom line is €400 for a pub. Any less, we don't bother. However, our asking price is €500. We accept €400 if the gig is local i.e.Dublin, and the pub would have us back for regular slots.

So, what is your asking price and bottom line?

Also, how much do the solo acoustic guys get? I've been told €175 is a bit pricey.

    Would appreciate your feedback.

Was in a five piece and the average was 100 each. Your figure for that seems spot on.

    Not sure about solo prices.

Cheers. Yeah, I had a feeling these guys were talkin' through their hoop. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't underselling. I'll be keeping with the price:)

    Thanks for the feedback.

It depends on the venue for us. We have different rates for different places. Tommorow night we're in Cork and we'll get 700 euro +, but on Saturday night, the venue we're playing get the band to take the door, and they get their drink money.

The bottom line for us would be 400 quid.

Yeah what Joe said. Paid for doing originals is a pipe dream:) When Smiley Bulger used to do the gigs in Slattery's of Capel St though, he was very fair payment wise. I think the guy in Fibbers does a fair scheme these days. We did get paid 400 a gig in one city centre pub doing originals. That was a real exception though.

Unfortunately, original musicians have allowed themselves be sold short in the money department, so that all originals acts are stuck in the out of pocket rut usually. The covers snobbery hasn't helped them neither. I often think back to The Beatles, The Stones etc. They started by playing covers and originals. At the end of the day, people want to hear songs they like. If you do that, they will be willing to listen to the songs you've written and you'll get more gigs, play to a wider audience AND GET PAID. Unfortunately, playing more than one cover is not cool enough for alot. Shame. I actually remember my first band, we were all around 16, but we were very good. In a set of 14 songs, we played about 4 - 5 covers. Led Zep, Cream etc. I remember playing Whelans, and the band on after us start slagging us for playing 4 covers. It was this 'cool' thing. Never mind that they were in their 20's and we were a bunch of kids with 9 good original compositions. It was like they felt we were cheating or something:) At the end of the day, we entertained the audience. We gained their trust with the covers so that they perked up and gave our own songs a listen. Afterwards I can tell you, it wasn't the other bands CD that they were buying, and that was full of our own stuff:)
Anyway, I've gone right off on one:)
