Not sure if this is the correct forum for this so a mod might please move if not??

A friend of mine separated 2 years ago.
She received €100k+ from sale of family home..she has 3 kids..a part time job earning about €140 per week..ex giving her no maintenance..
She is paying €1200 per month rent and has been using her share of house sale for daily living..has used thus far about €35k+ of her share...

This is unsustainable as that money was to buy another home for her and her kids...she would like to apply for one parent family allowance and rent allowance but is afraid that SW will count her lump sum as income and give her nothing..

Any opinions? If she keeps going the way she is going she will use up all the lump sum in another couple of years and never be able to buy another house of her own and end up being in need of state housing forever..and be a burden on the state (which she does not want to be...)

Surely SW would not count the money received from sale of family home as income/assets???

EDIT: Sorry thought I was in PI...can a mod please move???

Savings, regardless of how you got them are counted as means as follows:

    First €20,000 Nil
    Next €10,000 €1 per €1,000
    Next €10,000 €2 per €1,000
    Balance €4 per €1,000

I think it is still worth her while applying for Lone Parents and FIS, as it is complicated and rent can be offset against means. Has she applied for affordable housing? Why on earth is she not getting maintenance?
