Turned on my laptop this morning and got a series of errors popping up one after another:

syntphelper.exe application error - The application failed to initiate properly
    0xC000005

Logonul.exe application error - The application failed to initiate properly
    0xC000005

gnotify.exe application error - The application failed to initiate properly 0xC000005

reader_sl.eve application error - The application failed to initiate properly 0xC000005

So basically nothing worked, not even the mouse. Rebooted it a few times but keep getting the same errors. Did a quick google but didnt really come up with any explanations..??

I havent installed any software or downloaded anything recently. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

    Thanks.

Have you done an antivirus check?

Back up your data and reinstall windows would be the easiest option.

OS reinstall will be the fastest and easiest way to fix it.

it could be w32.Pinfi virus or problem with RAM.

    syntphelper.exe - http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/syntphelper/ - tools to fix, it's a problem with the mouse/pointer app.

Logonul.exe - The LogonUI.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. In other cases, LogonUI.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!

gnotify.exe - this is a google app, reinstalling google chat should sort that out

reader_sl.eve - is part of Adobe and a re-install of thier products should sort that out.

The most worrying is the logonul.exe app error, there is no real way that i am aware of to fix this besides a reinstall. This would get infected and would be a target for a trojan.

So as others have said, backup the data you want to keep and re-install the OS. As all these have happened at the same time your machine has been infected with something.

After re-installing the OS, get yourself some AV software!

I'm assuming that the second time that Quarrybaby turned on the laptop, he/she got vapourised, so we'll never know the answer to this great mystery.:(
