Hi there, ive been on JSA (means tested one) for just over 12 months and its starting to get to me big time. Im extremely appreciative of this money however I am someone who searches high and low for jobs.

Im a law graduate with a years experience in banking and in a legal position after I graduated. I'm beginning to think I am unemployable :( I know there are so many people in the same boat, I really hate scrounging off the state. I'm sure it makes everyone feel like crap.

Anyway I guess what im asking is, would anyone advise moving abroad? I know you can fill out a form E303 and transfer you benefit payments to the country you are travelling to.
How long does this take to process? And do you get the rate of your own country in the new country or do you make do with the host countries rate?

Seriously getting pretty down about this whole thing. Ive applied everywhere! I have references, a pretty decent CV but yet im getting nothing. Id take anything at this stage :(

You get the Irish rate for a few weeks. Then I guess you'd have to apply for the local benefit if you're entitled to it at all.

As for whether it's worth emigrating? Depends on where you're going to. It's pretty bad all over, but it's worse in Ireland than some places I think.

Don't think you can transfer any means-tested payment like jobseekers allowance abroad.

Would you consider volunteering for FLAC ? (free legal advice centres) It would keep you busy, and it would'nt do your CY any harm either & you'd be helping others. www.flac.ie www.lawsociety.ie

That's an excellent idea opa. Make sure to clear it with the social first, since you're supposed to be available for full time work when getting a jobseeker's payment.

(As long as the volunteer position agrees to release you for job interviews and should you get paid employment, I don't see it being a problem.)
