I would suggest you get to car to someone who will do some testing and diagnose the fault.

If it's a 02 anyone with a odb connection and a laptop will be able to read the fuel rail pressure and tell you if its the pump or not.

Others things to look at that can cause a drop in preformance are:

    1. EGR valve. Get it cleaned and free moving again. Should be done about every 50k or so. (This will improve power low down in the revs especially)

    2. Check the turbo hose for any splits or holes. There will be one from the turbo to inter cooler and from inter cooler to inlet manifold. (Sign's of damage are if she is smoky and sluggish under acceleration)

    3. Run an diesel treatment thought it and use a good one!

    Hi,

I must change my profile, not in Kildare any more.

No, not main dealer. You need a diesel specialist who does diagnostics to a decent level. They are a bit scarce to be honest. Find out what system is fitted to it, could be Delpi or Denso, and find an authorised agent for that particular system. That would be your best chance of getting it diagnosed efficiently.

    hi again
sorry for been a pest just rang my mechanic and asked him how he diagnosed this problem he said it was experiance (not much )he has no way of diagnosing the jeep and to be honest i just turn the key if it goes great if not call him up untill now that is but i cant see the logic behind this because if its not fuel pump and it continues to give probs ill end up spendind more money on it and way things are not really worth it

Just take the thing to your nearest Mitsubishi dealer and get them to diagnose it. If they repair it, you have a 12 month warranty on the work they carry out. Your other mechanic sounds about as knowledgable as my dog.

There's a guy in Celbridge I use. He really knows his stuff and would be able to run a diagnostic on the car too.

Yes, guesswork and “bolt on diagnostics” is very inefficient. That was the impression I had from your first post.

I still say, from experience, that a specialist is the best way to go.

One would imagine that a dealer should be the ultimate in quality repair work but the reality is that is not always the case.

this is follow on from a previous thread i had earlier ,i drive pajero exceed 3.3 diesel not running great gave it to my local mechanic who said it needed a good service 500euro later still same prob .
so took it for dignostics yes morn and was told i needed new fuel pump at a cost of 1400 euro so fed up of been taken for a fool i said id get second opinion and this morn got a diagnostics again no fault showed up and this guy said it could be a number of things but as it was sat morn very little he could do till mon and he would make a few calls . Meanwhile i have it booked in with main dealerships on mon morn , my question is can this happen am i been told the truth with the 1st guy and should i go ahead and get fuel pump done at a cost of 1400 or could the second guy be right and it might be electrical or do i wait and go to main dealerships any advice greatly appreciated thanks

Bring it to the Main Dealer get Proper Diagnostics done on it

The error from yesterday should still show up today unless the guy cleared it yesterday. That could then indicate it's an intermittent fault.
    Sounds very strange though.

Just remember too that diagnostics are not the be all & end all. They are only an aid to an experienced motor technician.

If there is a fault, it should show on the proper main dealer diagnostics test. I would personally get the main dealer to give you the diagnosis. Don't go changing parts until you are satisfied that the part needs changing.
How bad is it running anyway? What are the symptoms? A fuel pump is very expensive. Is it a direct injection system? Maybe one of the injectors is acting up?> although, they can be eur 500 a pop.

hi guys and thanks for replies guess main dealers is way to go on this
re cashmin : its runing great thats mt problem i imagined if it was fuel pump it would be regular trouble but this is not the case and it could go great for a week or two and then drop power but it is only on long journey thanks again guys

the problem with diagnostic fault codes is that your gettin the fault code from a unit that may be faulty so in effect it could be tellin porky pies,if the technician is good and carries out the relevant tests, you'll have a much better idea what component is actually faulty.fault codes can only point you in the right direction sometimes:(

    Are they not 3.2?

I put an injector pump on an 05 one last week. Apparently they are quite common.

Guy in Cavan fixes them, prices vary on the damage but he said between 550 and 850 as far as I remember.

A common cause is letting them run out of diesel or so I believe.

There is a lot of stripping to get it out but then again I apparently went at it the hard way..

Not really, it is a fair bit of work involved in it!

http://www.des.ie/, I am nearly 100% sure this is the mob that repaired the pump.

The guy there was dead sound and talked me through re fitting it when he had sent it back.
